Obituary of Ima Jean Dawson

Ima Jean Dawson 84 of Crum, West Virginia passed away May 29, 2024 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House following a long illness.

Mrs. Dawson was born March 2, 1940 at Kermit, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Willie and Etta Vanover Ward. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Ralph Leon Dawson; a son Ronald Lee Dawson; brothers Robert, Paul, Merl, Lyle, Jerry, and Roger Ward; and a sister Joyce Faye Ward.

A 1958 graduate of Kermit High School, Ima Jean Dawson was a former teacher and retired teacher’s aide. She was a Den Mother for Cub Scout Troop 333 in Crum. Ima Jean also passionately supported Crum and Tolsia High School athletic programs. She served as a local and regional sales representative for Avon and was an avid collector.

As a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, she served as Worthy Grand Matron. She was also a prominent businesswoman, owning and operating the iconic Crum Pizza House, where many cherished memories were made.

Ima Jean had a zest for life. She enjoyed camping trips with her family, hosting the annual family reunion, and traveling to places like Atlantic City and Las Vegas.

Ima Jean Dawson's memory will live on in the hearts of her family and the countless lives she touched throughout her journey. Her kindness and love will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her.

Survivors include two sons R.L. Dawson II and Robert Lyle Dawson and spouse Jaysen; grandchildren Jessica Dawson DeHaven and husband Aaron, Matthew Dawson and wife Britany, Sara Dawson Smith and husband Clay; great grandchildren Lyla DeHaven, Dawson DeHaven, Lincoln DeHaven, Claire Dawson, Fiona Dawson, Phoebe Dawson, Sutton Smith, and Porter Smith; a sister Genevieve Duffey, a brother-in-law Lowell Herbert Dawson; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday June 1st at 1;00 pm at the Wilson Funeral Home with Pastor Tommy Meddings officiating. Burial will follow in the Frazier Hill Cemetery at Fort Gay, West Virginia.

Friends may visit the family on Saturday June 1st from 11:00 am until time of services at the Wilson Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House.
